It may not seem like it this very minute, but summer is almost here. And since we live in Durban that means hot and balmy – just as I like it!
This summer the look is more laid back and natural – perfect for a South African summer, don’t you think.
Ladies, this summer it’s time to toss out the contour products and heavy brow pencils. Structured lips and full skin coverage is also out.
The catch phrase is “skin that breathes” – my favourite type of skin. Think fresh. Think glowing. Think dewy.
Shine baby, shine
My favourtite foundation for this look is MAC’s Face and Body foundation. It’s water resistant with a beautifully natural, satin finish. Most of us don’t have perfect skin, so a bit of concealer under your foundation will do the trick. Add a touch of bronzer on your cheeks and eyelids for a sun-kissed complexion. And here’s the kicker – no powder ladies! Apparently the shinier, the better!
Gloss gives you a youthful look – and who doesn’t want to look youthful right?
Think glossy lips, glossy lids, dewy skin and glittery eyes and lips. Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour cream is perfect to create a glossy effect anywhere on your face.
Make a statement with glitter, lip strobes and lipgloss. Red lips with minimal makeup will always be a timeless look.
Say goodbye to dramatic insta brows this summer. It’s all about naturally groomed eyebrows. Fill in your brows lightly and use a tinted brow gel to keep them in place. My go-to is MAC’s brow pencil in Spiked and Benefit’s brow gel. Winner!
Bottom liner is in and appears pretty unfinished. Even if your under-eye liner smudges in the heat, that’s fine – that’s the look you want! (Think of when you wake up after going to bed with liner on – not that I EVER go to bed with makeup on!).
Thankfully, liquid liner is still in. So, wing it my friends!
Metallic, glitter or a bare glossy lid – there are a few options to play with here. And for the daring among you – colourful, graphic eyeshadow is also in!
So, these are the basics you need to know to keep your look on trend this summer. Follow my Instagram feed as I create these looks and pair them with others in the next few weeks.
